Like all great modern love stories, ours begins… in the DMs.
It was 2019, right after high school graduation, when I (Kylie) responded to a "Tag Tuesday" Twitter prompt that said: "Tag your crush." Did I tag him? Oh no — I sent him an embarrassingly long direct message instead. Funny thing, we had never even met in person before. I just had a feeling.
As fate would have it (and in true cinematic fashion), my phone immediately died after sending it. I was so nervous, I refused to plug it in. Avery on the other side of the message was not looking for a relationship at this point in time, BUT he was so impressed with the bold gesture and felt like he had to respond.
Our first time hanging out was a late night headed home, we sat on his couch, where all 4 of his roommates lived, talking for hours straight like no one else existed. We were young, curious, and connected in a way that felt rare. Avery will even tell you he fell in love on the first night. We dated for a year before life took us in different directions, and we spent four years apart growing, learning, and becoming the people we were meant to be.
Fast forward — and cue the dramatic love story revival — Avery and I reconnected, almost out of the blue. There hadn't been much contact, but somehow, the spark was still there. He will tell you that I "friend-zoned" him for eight long months. (To be fair, he’s not totally wrong.) But what he calls stubborn, I call intentional — because deep down, I knew that this would be forever.
And now, here we are — two people who met at just the right wrong time, grew through love and distance, and found their way back to each other. We’re so excited to start this next chapter as husband and wife, and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!
